To advance the future of urban mobility, GS E&C developed a 30-metre pretensioned PSC girder with an integrated track system for urban magnetic levitation (maglev) railways. Traditional maglev infrastructure relies on separate construction of girders and track systems, resulting in higher costs, complex installations and more material usage. GS E&C’s combined-track solution addresses these challenges with a single prefabricated component that simplifies construction and enhances long-term performance.
The innovation delivers a cost reduction of almost 19% compared to conventional separated-track PSC girders and further achieves a 24% saving in track construction costs. With three Korean patents granted, the system has already been applied in the Korean Institute of Machinery & Materials’ Internal Track (2018), validating its practical potential in real-world maglev transit environments.
Designed for durability and ease of installation, the combined girder system reduces maintenance needs and environmental disruption, while improving safety and ride quality. Its prefabricated nature also enhances quality control and shortens construction schedules – critical advantages in dense urban areas.
This development exemplifies GS E&C’s commitment to creating integrated, efficient transport infrastructure that supports smarter, more sustainable cities – and delivers meaningful public benefit into the future.
