Sky-guideway Bridge – 200m Space Truss for Urban Light Rail

Research & Development

GS E&C’s 200m space truss bridge redefines elevated rail infrastructure.

As cities grow denser, elevated transport must balance performance with aesthetics and minimal urban disruption. GS E&C responded to this challenge by developing a 200-metre long space truss girder – a pioneering structural solution for light rail systems.   Traditional elevated rail bridges typically rely on steel box-type girders, which are costly, visually bulky, and require more support piers, increasing complexity and ground-level impact. This innovative truss design delivers a 20% construction cost saving compared to steel box alternatives, while minimising material usage and on-site labour through prefabrication. Its ultra-long span allows for fewer piers, preserving ground space and reducing interference with existing infrastructure or public areas.     The Sky-guideway Bridge has been recognised internationally, winning Gold at the WAN Awards 2023 in collaboration with ZJA (Netherlands) for its architectural and engineering excellence. With four patents and one registered design in Korea, the bridge sets a new standard for elevated light rail infrastructure.   Now being applied in the Daegu Urban Railway Turnkey Project (2025), this development reflects GS E&C’s commitment to building future-ready, human-centred infrastructure that supports smarter, more sustainable urban transport systems.
